Klubben bildades 1884 som Leicester Fosse
Football Club av några äldre elever på Wyggeston School och medlemmar från
den gamla Emanuel Church. Namnet Fosse kommer från fältet där de
spelade. Det låg vid Fosse Road. De blev professionella 1890 och
började året efter att spela på anrika Filbert Street. 1894
valdes klubben in i division II. Under första världskriget fick
de ekonomiska bekymmer och man gjorde därför en rekonstruktion
1919 och bytte då även namn till Leicester City FC.
